Why Redefined Dog Exists

Everything in life has a story to tell. It may not be big, long or even very exciting, but together that being it matters.

From a young age we are surrounded by stories. They shape who we become and how we see the world. Some beings find it harder to tell their stories, through trauma, fear, lack of confidence or simply not having the words. For me, animals have always been where stories are easiest to hear.

My life has always revolved around animals, from rhinos and bears to fish and dogs. With them, communication feels natural. Over time they found a voice with me, and I learned how to listen. It is often joked my life revolves around my dogs, and honestly it does. Observing them, exploring the world with them and learning from them has become my greatest passion. Every dog who has shared my life has challenged my knowledge and allowed me to grow. But one dog changed everything. My soul dog Winnie taught me one of the greatest lessons of all: slow down.

We are taught that stories have a beginning, a middle and an end, and we often rush towards the end searching for achievement. Winnie had no interest in rushing anywhere. She wanted to watch the world, take things slowly, and occasionally eat chips. Through her I learned the importance of being present and finding joy in the moment, something dogs do naturally.

Using the creativity of ACE (Animal Centred Education), we was able to create an environment that supported Winnie exactly asshe was. She wasn't what many people would call a "normal" dog, but once we truly accepted her for who she was, that didn't matter to either of us. Redefined Dog began with Winnie.

The mission of Redefined Dog is to support guardians and their dogs in discovering their own story. Through listening, understanding their needs, and creating a world where they can thrive and find joy together. Because at Redefined Dog we do more than train dogs - We help dogs be seen.

How We Work

At Redefined Dog, behaviour support is about more than changing behaviour. It is about understanding dogs, listening to what they are communicating, and supporting both dog and guardian on their journey together. Many of the dogs we meet are experiencing big feelings - fear, frustration, overwhelm, excitement or uncertainty. Behaviour is simply their way of communicating those emotions.

During our sessions we slow things down and explore the whole dog. We look at their emotional wellbeing, physical comfort, environment and daily lives. When we begin to understand the bigger picture, we can start supporting dogs in ways that help the, feel safer, calmer and more confident.

Just as importantly, we support the guardians too. Living with behavioural challenges can feel overwhelming at times, and our aim is always to provide guidance, understanding and practical steps that help you move forward together.

ACE - Animal Centred Education

A key part of our work At Redefined Dog is ACE (Animal Centred Education) developed by Sarah Fisher.

ACE helps us understand dogs on a deeper level by observing posture, movement, behaviour and nervous system responses. These observations give us valuable insight into how are dog may be feeling physically and emotionally. During sessions we use ACE Freework, which provides a calm and enriching learning environment where dogs are able to move, explore and ma,e choices at their own pace. Through this process dogs can build confidence, develop important life skills and experience a sense of calm and emotional balance. For guardians, ACE freework also offers a new way to observe and understand their dog. ACE can benefit dogs of all ages, breed and abilities.
